No. 11 Oregon beats No. 3 Ohio State in upset, shaking up College Football Playoff race

No. 11 Oregon scored the first major upset that will shake up the College Football Playoff picture Saturday by going on the road and stunning two-touchdown favorite No. 3 Ohio State 35-28.

Taking gain of a shaky Buckeyes run defense, CJ Verdell pilled up 161 yards and  touchdowns rushing and added a landing reception to steer the way. The Ducks finished with 269 yards at the floor and 505 yards standard. Senior quarterback Anthony Brown became 17-of-35 for 236 yards and  touchdowns.

The victory became a main boost to Oregon and the Pac-12 because the Ducks are looking for their first playoff look when you consider that 2014 and the conference seems to give up an absence in the field that dates to Washington's choice in 2016.

Making it greater brilliant become the attempt came with All-America shielding lineman Kayvon Thibodeaux and linebacker Justin Flowe sidelined. The protection allowed 612 yards, however came up large with 3 stops of fourth downs in its territory after which a past due interception of Ohio State freshman quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Oregon running back CJ Verdell (7) gets past Ohio State cornerback Cameron Brown on his way to a 77-yard touchdown during the third quarter at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

The Buckeyes who lost for the primary time at home seeing that a defeat to Oklahoma on Sept. Nine, 2017, faces a hard course to the playoff. A 2nd loss in the Big Ten, inspite of a conference championship, would probable suggest Ohio State misses the field after consecutive appearances in Ryan Day's first two seasons.

While this became the primary loss after 24 consecutive victories outside of the playoff, there were warning signs for the Buckeyes after their beginning win towards Minnesota. Though Stroud played well as the successor to Justin Fields, the Buckeyes allowed 205 yards speeding in the defeat of the Golden Gophers.

Stroud once more had a great statistical day, throwing for 484 yards and 3 touchdowns. However, after hitting Jaxon Smith-Njigba on fourth-and-6 for a fifteen-backyard landing to bring the Buckeyes inside 35-28, Stroud could not engineer a sport-tying scoring power his final 3 possibilities.

Oregon opened the scoring inside the first 1/2 with a 99-backyard touchdown force on 10 plays. The Ducks combined run and pass correctly until Verdell went around left end for a 14-backyard rating.

Oregon ended the half of with a 14-7 lead whilst Verdell again scored, this time on 14-backyard pass from Brown. It was the primary time Ohio State trailed at home because it played Nebraska on Nov. Three, 2018.
